Each school year the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is required to report to the U.S. Department of Education the "Percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities."

On Wednesday, August 16, Greendale 2nd graders were treated to a special visit by Delegate Israel O’Quinn. The students have been studying citizenship and what it means to be a good citizen at the school level, community level, state level, and national levels.
Watauga Elementary was prepared for the 2017 total solar eclipse. On Monday, August 21st, students at WES took advantage of this rare, educational opportunity and allowed students to safely experience the event during the school day.
Students in Mrs. Richardson’s fourth grade classroom recently completed a back to school escape room challenge. They were placed in teams and raced to solve a variety of four-digit codes based upon clues that they found along the way.
We want to congratulate the girls and boys track teams on their outstanding track season in the Spring. Congratulations to the girls team who finished state runner up. Catherine G. led the team by winning two individual state championships in the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters. Maggie B. was state runner up in the triple jump. Others making the All State team were Madison B., Abigail B., Katie C., Rebekah T., Maria H., Kimi W., Annie S., Haydyn F., and Casey Q.
The school-wide theme at Valley Institute is "Going Green". With a focus on recycling, Mr. Asbury's fifth grade class was asked to bring in recycled materials to create a Valley "student".

Alloying Washington County School's Vision Statement of being an innovative leader in education excellence, teaching and learning, creativity, technology integration and global citizenship with Virginia Tech's brand tagline "We Invent the Future", the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center (WCCTEC) will integrate mixed reality into the Nurse Aide curriculum this semester.
High Point Elementary School has been transformed into the summer camp of our camper's dreams! This year campers at High Point will explore exciting places like Math Mountain and the Science Swamp!
Students participating in the elementary summer school program visited the Dreamland Alpaca Farm in Meadowview, VA. They met a variety of animals such as Teddy Bear Sheep, Alpacas, chickens, and goats.
