Congratulations to the Boys' Cross Country team for being the State Runner-Up at the VHSL Cross Country Championships Friday which is the highest a boys team from Abingdon has ever finished in school history!

Abingdon Elementary School Title I had its fall Family Night on Oct. 6. There were 78 family members and staff present. Everyone enjoyed snacks and made a fall leaf suncatcher.
|Holston Students Excel at Mathematics Competition||11-21-2016||
On Tuesday, November 1, Holston High School sent a team of students to UVA-Wise to participate in the Sigma Zeta Math and Science Contest. Team members Morgan K., Dianna S., Jacob J., and Sean L., led by Coach Shirley Snead, competed in the math contest against several other teams from high schools in our region.

Recently, Ms. Anndrena Belcher, Appalachian storyteller, singer, and songwriter, taught, inspired and entertained junior and senior GATE students as part of their study of Appalachian literature and culture. Ms. Belcher told of her own experience growing up in both the mountains of Kentucky and the city of Chicago.

Meghan T. was selected as the recipient of a scholarship to attend Johnson & Wales University. Meghan's academic record and personal accomplishments earned her this distinguished award. She will be living on campus and officially becomes a JWU Wildcat in May!
|HPES First Grade Has (Pumpkin) Character!||11-16-2016||
During the months of September and October, first grade students at High Point Elementary read lots of books and investigated many characteristics of fall. As part of the study, the students went on a field trip to Fender’s Farm in Jonesborough, TN where they each got to pick and bring home an ear of corn, a gourd, and a small pumpkin.

Greendale Elementary kindergarten students were surprised with a special visit from Maisy Mouse in the school library. Maisy Mouse stars in her very own books written by Lucy Cousins.
|Holston Cross Country Team Enjoys Continued Success||11-14-2016||
Holston High School’s Cross Country team, under the direction of Coach Sammy Campbell, enjoyed another successful year. At the conference meet on October 26th at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol, nine runners finished well enough to qualify move on to the regional event at Eastside High School in Coeburn.

On Thursday, October 27, 2016, John S. Battle High School honored its 2015-2016 Washington County Community Scholars with a breakfast. Parents and other family members were invited to share in the occasion.
|MES Visited by “Spanish Explorers” from Patrick Henry High School||11-11-2016||
Patrick Henry High School Spanish II students came to Meadowview to represent the early Spanish explorers. 5th grade students acted as the First Americans greeted by the conquistadors. The fifth-grade students had to communicate with the Spanish explorers who had landed on their land.
