Globes made by students on display.Mrs. Roark’s class at Abingdon Elementary School recently completed their individual globes for several of their ASOL objectives in history. Each individual student made their own globe by creating the globe from the following materials:  newspaper, flour, water, and a balloon.

The Greendale Choir Tried Something New 05-04-2016

Elementary choir students on a stage singing.The Greendale Choir is gearing up for its end-of-the-year events.  Up first is the choir’s trip to Dollywood on Saturday, May 7.  The choir will be leaving from Greendale early that morning, travelling to Pigeon Forge, TN, singing in front of two judges who will score the choir based on several performance criteria, and spending the afternoon in Dollywood.  That evening, they will attend an awards ceremony where their score will be revealed, then travel back home to Abingdon.  What a day!

C.S.I. Team Finishes Second at State SkillsUSA! 05-03-2016

VIES Pre-K Students Have Received Class Pet Grants 05-02-2016

A group of kids standing in front of a large fish tank.Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Drapers Pre-K class would like to thank a Pets in the Classroom grant for the $125.00 awarded to purchase our new 29 gallon aquarium.  All of the kids helped put it together and the parents were kind enough to send in donated items such as plants, decorations, and weekend feeders.

PHHS: Hike to the top of Virginia! 04-29-2016

Twelve teenagers and a man standing in a field.Twelve students from Patrick Henry High School completed a day hike to Mount Rogers. Monday, April 25th, was beautiful as well as educational for students enrolled in Mr. Thayer’s Natural Resource class who completed a 9 mile hike.

DMS GATE Students Experience Life as Military Personnel 04-29-2016

A group of students sitting on a beach.Damascus Middle School GATE students recently visited Charleston, South Carolina where they spent five days on an aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown.  Students were treated like true military and had to sleep in the original berthing quarters, eat in the mess hall, and were awakened each morning early to reveille and retired each evening to the playing of "Taps."

Culinary Arts Students Continue Successful District Competition 04-29-2016

Each competitor had ninety minutes to prepare five separate food items.

GSMS Students Build and Interact With Lego Robotics 04-28-2016

A boy in a black shirt sitting and making a Lego robot.On April 14, 2016 students from Glade Spring Middle School traveled to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center to participate in a session of LEGO Robotics.  Students were able to use onsite laptops to program their robots to move forward, backwards, and turn in circles.

Wallace Middle School Students Create Their Own Island 04-28-2016

Seven students stand in front of their island projects.Ever thought about living on your own island?  Students in Mrs. Johnson's math classes at Wallace Middle School designed, created, and named their own island.  This hands-on activity helped to make this VA Standard of Learning come to life.
