|Watauga Elementary School Celebrates 100 Days of School||01-26-2018||
On January 24th, Watauga encouraged students and faculty to participate in celebrating the 100th day of school by donating cans of non-perishable food items to give to the local food bank.
|Drug and Bullying Awareness Month at Wallace Middle School||01-24-2018||
“Our School Believes, Achieves, Succeeds - Drug and Bully-Free” was this year’s theme at WMS. Students promoted Red Ribbon Week and National Bullying Prevention Month by participating in various activities, including a door decorating contest and bullying awareness informational sessions presented in each homeroom. Students also viewed the movie, “Faces of Addiction” produced by the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition and participated in themes during Red Ribbon week.
|ASVAB Test to Be Offered at Career and Technical Center||01-23-2018||
For the 16th consecutive year, the Washington County Career and Technical Center will sponsor a test session for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB). The test will be given on Friday, February 2nd from 12:30 to 3:15 PM. The ASVAB is offered to all county sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have a potential interest in serving in the United States military. All branches of the military and their reserve components mandate that individuals take the ASVAB before they enlist.
|Holston High School's Matlock Wins Deserved Recognition||01-22-2018||
Social Studies Teacher Julie Matlock was recently selected as the 2017-18 Secondary Teacher of the Year for Washington County. The recognition was well deserved as she has worked tirelessly to serve the needs of her students. Julie came to the teaching profession after trying her hand as a paralegal. She began at HHS in the spring of 2014 as a long-term substitute and SOL tutor. Her dedication was immediately evident and she was chosen as a full-time teacher for the 2014-15 school year.
|Watauga Elementary School Wins Annual Elementary School Spelling Bee||01-22-2018||
On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 spelling bee winners from the seven elementary schools in Washington County competed in the Annual Elementary School Spelling Bee at Abingdon Elementary School. After several rounds, Brenna G. from Watauga Elementary School was declared county champion, correctly spelling “supercilious."

The Holston FFA traveled to Springfield, MA this September for the Eastern States Exposition which is also known as the Big E. The Big E is a regional fair for several New England states.
