Abingdon Elementary Holds Annual Spelling Bee
Post date:
Mon, February 23, 2015
On Friday, January 9, Abingdon Elementary held its annual school-wide spelling bee. Twenty participants eagerly took the spotlight to show off their spelling expertise. Students had already proven their success by competing in classroom competitions and were named champions of their classroom.
It was a tough competition; we went through numerous rounds and 120 words before we declared a champion. Gavin M, a fifth grader, won by correctly spelling the word, “amulet.” Gage K, a second grader, was our runner-up! Gavin went on to compete at the county wide spelling bee on January 20 at Watauga Elementary. He was accompanied by his parents and his teacher, Mrs. Campbell and his principal, Ms. de Nobriga. We are very proud of our fantastic spellers!
